EAST COAST ROAD

TENDERS LET FOR TWO NEW BRIDGES It is expected that Mr. J. Kerr, of Opotiki, whose tender was successful for the building of the bridges over the Kereu and Raukokore rivers, on the Opotiki to Gisborne East Coast Road, will commence work on them very shortly. These bridges are a most important link in this route as on their completion it will be possible to motor right through Gisborne by the coastal road. The bridges, which are to be of a temporary nature, are to be built entirely of NeW Zealand timber, which it is hoped to procure from the upper reaches of the rivers themselves. The Kereu bridge will be about 100 feet long and the Ruakokore bridge about 300 feet.
