archbishop of canterbury seeks power to stop abuse
ECHO OF STIFFICEY CASE
— By Telegraph— Copyright).
LONDON, Wednesday. "I am conferring with lawyers to see if it is possible to legislate whereby the abuse of publicity can be restrained witjhout injuring justice," said the P'rimate, the Most Rev. Cosmo Gordon Lang, D.D., at the opening of the Canterbury convocation, alluding to the hearing of the case before the Consistory Court at Norwich against Rev, H. Davidson, vicar of Stiffkey, who is charged with improper conduct. His Grace continued : "It raises the issue whether it is necessary in the interest of public morals and justice that such a stream of sordid and unsavoury details should be poured into the public mind. I have received many indignant protests, including one from the Diocesan Council at Perth. It is deplorable. I think the case has been telegraphed to every part of the Dominions,"
