EXPRESSIONS OF FRIENDSIIIP BETWEEN TWO PEOPLES HOPES OF COMMANDER

WELLINGTON, Wednes. A State limcheon in honour of the visit of the Japanese naval vessels, Asama and Iwate was held in Parliament House to-day. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes presided, and the guests of honour were; Vice-Admiral Imamura, Captain S. Kasuya, Captain F. Okada, Captain H. Asakuma, Commander F. Miwa, Lieutenant K. Hamanaka and Surgeon-Captain F. Fulcada." Others present were, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, the Hon E. A. Ramsom, the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, the Hon. R. Masters and Sir Charles Statham. In proposing the toast of the guests Mr. Coates mentioned that Admiral Imamura had been in tbe vanguard of the British fleet at Jutland. He said that the only hope for the world was the eo-operation of the nations of the world. The need for that was more pressing now than ever before, and also there was a need for friendship between p'eoples. Dealng with economic and other problems, Mr. Coates said that New Zealand was .delighted to meet the Japanese visitors in order to cement the friendshp between the two peoples. Responding Admiral Imamura said that it was his sincere wish that the visit of the squadron should be the nreans of a good understanding and should contribute in no small ; measure to the fulfiment of the de$tiny of the two great nations of the Pacific. \
