HAILED WITH JOY

(Press. Assn.-

AUSTRALIAN COURTS UPHELD

— By Telegraph — Copyright).

SYDNEY, Wednesday. "The Privy Council's decisions on the Upper House appeal will be hailed with joy by all patriotic eitizens," said Mr. B. S. Stevens, the State Premier. "It is a complete vindication of the law as interpreted by both tbe Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia." Mr. J. A. Lyons, the Federal Prime Minister, said: — -"The decision is merely what many of us expected. So far as New South Wales is concerned it is in the same position as the Commonwealth in that a proposed amendment of its consitution cannot be made until it has been submitted to the whole community for a decision. This is eminently democratic and accordingly, the decision should receive the approval of everyone, no matter to what party they belong."

A message from Sydney received yiesterday said that Mr. J. T. Lang, in an interview regarding the Privy Council's decision on the Upper House Aholition Appeal casei, said: "I am not surprised. I expected it." This was his only comment.
