HEAVILY BARRED
POLICE RAIO ON CHINESE ' PREMISES IN AUCKLAND ARRESTS ON OPIUM CHARGES AUCKLAND, Wednesday. A shop in Grey's Avenue, deseribed by tbe police as the most heavily barred building in Auckland, was raided to-night. Later, two Chinamen were charged with being in possession of opium and permitting opium to be smoked on the premises; A police party of four carried out the raid, two being posted at the back, while the other two entered at the front. After forcing the front door of the building, which comprised an empty shop with living quarters above, the police were faced with a door barred on both sides with heavy timbering, corrupated iron and iron bars. All the windows were also strongly timbered, and after vain'ly attempting to force the inner doors, the police broke through the double wooden partition which was smashed with crowbars. In the room where the two men were arrested, was fitted two tiers of bunks. Several pipes were seized, as well as opium.
