INTER-CLUB GOLF
WEEK-END CONTEST ROTORUA DEFEATS HAMILTON IN FOURSOMES AND SINGLES SUGCESS EVENLY DIVIDED The team from the Hamilton Golf Club which visited Rotorua during the week-end to play against the Rotorua Golf Club did not prove itself strong enough and suffered defeat on both days. In the foursome competition played on Saturday afternoon, Rotorua won by eight games to three. The local team was also vietorious in the singles competition contested on the following morning, when they took 14 games against 10 losses. At the conclusion of the matches the captain of the Rotorua Club, Mr. E. La Trobe Hill, expressed pleasure on behalf of the club at having the Hamilton members again with them this year. The weather, fortunately, had been all that could be desired, and the matches had been keenly contested. It was, of course, satisfaction to be on the winning side, but he trusted that the Hamilton players had all enjoyed themselves. The Rotorua Club would be pleased to re- ' turn the visit at a later date. Mr. Atkins, captain of the Hamilton Club, in reply, thanked the Rotorua Club for the hospitality extended to them. They had all had a most enjoyable time and would be happy to welcome the Rotorua players to a return match on the Hamilton course at a date suitable to both clubs. Strong Combination Rotorua's leading players, R. C. Smith and S. E. Carr," proved too strong a combination for the leaders of the Hamilton team, G. B. Wake and R. F. Edmonds on Saturday, and had an easy victory, defeating the visitors by six up and five. The home pair returned an excellent card. Their medal score was 67, and they were six up on bogey. As a bogey competition was being played in conjunction with the inter-club contest, Smith and Carr proved the winners, although there were several other cards returned which defeated the "Colonel." The second pair in the inter-club foursomes, M. D. Carr and A. Anderson, also combined well, having an interesting and close game with H. T. Gillies and II. W. Fislier (Hamilton), ultimately to win by two and one. The lower graded players were, as a whole, fairly evenly matched, although Rotorua succeeded in taking most of the games. In the singles competition yesterday morning, Rotorua's leading players failed, and in the majority of cases suffered defeat. The longer handicap players, however, rectified this weakness by doing well, and again the local team secured the majority of the games.
