Rec. May 24, 9.20 p.mCANBERRA, Tuesday. The Federal Assistant Treasurer, Mr S. M. Bruce, reviewing the Commonwealth's finances when speaking upon the Supply'Bill in the House of Representatives, said that there was every prospect that the Government would end the year well within the Premiers' Plan. He antieipated that the deficit would not eiceed £1,500,000 after allowing for the relief provided by the war debts moratorium. A new tariff schedule was introduced lri the House to-day, -'increasing the excise duty on petrol distilledr in Australia by l|d per' gallon, which is estimated to produce £100,000' a year. A slight incrCase in impofts of matches, cigarette's and wireIess valves 'is' also included.
