OXLEY GAINS TECHNICAL K.O. IN MATCH WITH CROWLEY "IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE"
— By Telegraph — Copyrlght).
PAHIATUA, Saturday. It was a case of pupil showing his master last night, when Ted Oxley (Pahiatua), 9st 7£lb, completely overshadowed his former mentor, Jack Crowley (Wellington), 9st 61b,, in a professional boxing contest of ten rounds, before a packed audience. Oxley broke a hone in his left hand at the start of the second round, and relied on his right, which put Crowley down in the fourth round, and thereafter Crowley was sent to the canvas no fewer than six times, until the ninth. Only his gameness and fighting instinct kept him on his feet. In reply to the referee's query, Crowley at last criefi "enough," and collapsed in his corner from exhaustion. Oxley's teehincal knock-out in the ninth round was an impressive performance under the circumstances.
