Rec. May 22, 11 p.m. SHANGHAI, Sunday. The Japanese Army transport, Bombay Maru, caught fire in the harbour this morning, a few hours before the troops were to embark on the return to Japan. The vessel carried 100 tohs of gasolene and the fire spread rapidly, threatening the wharves and other ships. This necessitated the cutting of hawsers and taking the flaming Bombay Maru through the harbour and beaching her on the riVer bank, Where she is still burning.
