CAPTAIN ROBERT DOLLAR

NEW YORK, Monday. A message from San Rafael (California), announces the death of Captain Robert Dollar (88), a shipping and lumber magnate. He died this morning following two weeks' illness.

Robert Dollar was born at Falkirk (Scotland) in 1844. Going to Canada he commenced life in a lumber camp at the age of 13. In 1856 he went to the United States; and became naturalised in 1888, and settled in California, where he embarked ' on various hranches of industry. He was known as one of the largest oper- ' ators of ocean vessels in the world. Captain Dollar is widely believed to have been the original of 'Catmy Ricks' the engaging character created by his friend Mr. Peter B. Kyne.
