WELLINGTON, Friday. An inquiry by a judicial body into the clash between the police and unemployed strikers in Upper Cuba Street on Wednesday, with a.view to ascertaining whether the police acted rashly and with unwarranted severity was sought by a deputation on behalf of relief work strikers which waited on the Minister of Justice, the Hon. J/ G. Cobbe. The deputation claimed that some warning should have been given by the police. and the Minister was asked to transfer Inspector Lauder to another part of the Dominion. Mr. Cobbe said he would, not dream of transferring Inspector Lander. There was clear evidence that the po- , lice were stoned before they were forced to resort to direct action. He promised to make a thoroitgh investigation of the sworn statements of eye-witnesses produced by the deputation.
