JAPANESE DEER
ROTORUA STALKERS HAVE GOOD SPORT IN KAIMANAWAS SOME FINE HEAD'S SECURED Six exceptionally well balanced Japanese deer heads were secured last week by a party of four sportsmen who left Rotorua to spend three days in the bush country of the Kaimanawa ranges at the back of Taupo, The Japanese species of deer was liberated some time ago in this district, and although the herd was known to have multiplied, very few heads of this particular species have been taken. Five of the heads secured were of the full eight points which is the limit for the Japanese deer, while the sixth was a seven pointer. Members of the party were Messrs. E. C. Adolph (Rotorua), J. Thomas (Rotorua), H. Thomas (Auckland), and H. Lr. White (Auckland) . A member of th'e party stated that they were fortunate in securing their bag early in the week, as soon after they had commenced shooting there was a very large influx of stalkers in that particular area and before they broke camp, it was estimated that there were upwards of 80 sportsmen shooting over the district. After leaving the Kaimanawas, the party caihped for a couple of days at Rerewhakaitu, where Mr. Adolph secured an excellent sambur head — a full sixpointer with a spread of 30 inches.
