AN EXCELLENT FLOOR POLISH. Ingredients. 2oz beeswax (shaved thin). About a Dad tablet (shaved thin) 1 tablespoon shaved lifebuoy soap. 1 small cup turpentine. 1 small cup kerosene. 1 small cup boiling water. Method. ! Put all these ingredients into a bottle and shake well. ...The polish is then ready for use. The polish needs to be shaken before use. Very little is needed to give \jx bright, non-slipping polish. (Original). A. Stembridge, Ngongotaha. — FOUR USEFUL HINTS. 1. When cutting up hars of soap in small blocks to dry, shred half a bar on the grater. Store in a jar in the wash-house. This is very handy and saves shaving off soap with a knife. 2. A soap jelly may be made by saving all soap scraps and boiling with a little water. It may also be used in the copper. 3. Save all the coal dust and slack and put into a kerosene tin with some holes in the sides and bottcm. Stand the tin in the back garden and empty all tea-leaves on this. A bre may be kept in for hours by makIng up in the usual way, then putting a shovelful of the slack on top. ' 4. Wring a cloth out of vinegar and wipe the range or grate over before polishing in the usual way. A brilliant shine results with half the 'time and energy. — Mrs. S. E. Phipps, Toko St., Rotorua. HOUSEHOLD SOAP. Save every scrap of waste fat and *when suffieient has been saved, clarify and make into household soap. Six pounds clarified fat, 11b caustic soda, 51b. resin, Jlb borax, 2 gallons water. Put the lot into the copper boiler ' and bring to the boil. Boil slowly about 5 an hour or until stringy. Ingredients. — 51b flour (sifted), ilb I butter, 3oz castor sugar, 1 egg, i tea- : fepoon baking powder, a few drops vanilla 'essence, pinch salt. ; Method. — Rub fat into flour, then j add sugar, salt and 'baking powder, I lastly egg with vanilla arid about two ■ tablespoons of milk. Roll out on I board lightly covered with flour and ; castor sugar. Cut into shapes with j pastry cutter and decorate with half | h cherry. Bake in moderate oven I till golden hrown, about 10 minutes. Boil 4oz chopped suet in £ pint milk, pour on to it Jlb breadcrumbs, ilb feugar, mix well, add ilb flour, ilb sultanas, ilb raisins, pinch nutfneg and cinnamon, 1 teaspoon car:bonate soda. Ingredients. — One cup flour, i cup sugar, 1 cup cocoanut, 1 cup rolled oats, a few nuts of any kind, ilb 'butter, 1 level tablespoon golden syrup, 2 tablespoons water, 1 teapsoon soda. Method. — Put into saucepan and bring to boil, butter, syrup, water and soda; then mix well with other 'ingredients; place on cool greased trays with spoon; bake in moderate oven. Kitchen tea-cloths, washed in water to which a little borax has been add- ' ed, readily lose their stains and keep a good colour. ECRU CURTAINS. iWhen ecru curtains, etc., have faded, a little strained cocoa added to the last rinsing water will help wonderfully in renewing the ecru tone.
