LEADS TO ARREST OF OPOTIKI MAORI FOR BURGLARY

OPOTIKI, Wednesday. Tihi Makarini the Maori who was 'arrested on Monday in connection with the breaking of a shop window in Opotiki was remanded this morning to appear in the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 18th. The arrest was due to a particularly smart piece of work on the part of the local police. On receiving information to the effect that a pool of blood had been seen on the road, the police immediately proceeded to the spot by car and followed a trail of blood spots for some distance. ; When these ceased they hurried forward until they overtook a Maori with his hands in his pockets. On being told to take his hands out of his pockets it was revealed that one of them was covered in blood. The police then found the watches still in the man's possession and arrested him.
