OPPOSITION ASKS INQUIRY
— Hy Telegraph — Cop.yright.)
Rec. May 11, 8 p.m. SYDNEY, Wednesday. There was an uproar in the Legislative Assembly, when Mr. R. Weaver, deputy-leader of the Opposition moved for a Royal Commission to inquire into the action of eertain members of Cabinet in allegedly entering into a conspiracy with a man named Captain Warneford, lately a member of the New Guard, to break the law by the recent assault on Mr. J. S. Garden. Mr. Weaver declared that Captain Warneford, acting under instructions from. the Government and with a payment of £6 a week, had organised the Fascist Legion of New Guardsmen without the authority of the New Guard, culminating in the. attack on Mr. Garden. The whole thing, he said was a "frame-up." The Attorney-General, Mr. J. Lamaro, replied that it was quite impossible to grant a Royal Commission. He doubted whether Mr. Weav.er, himself believed what he told the Hptise. There was not one word of truth in the matter, and the best answer to the charge was that the men who attacked Mr. Garden, pleaded guilty. Mr. Weaver's motion was negatived on a purely party devision.
