VARIOUS OFFENCES DEALT WITH AT YESTERDAY'S SITTINGS. CHARGES ADMITTED. A charge of driving a car in a negligent manner on the Mamaku-Ngo-ngotaha Road was admitted by Hector Robert Dunton, a motor mechanic, of Waihi, in the Rotorua Magistrate's Court yesterday. Senior-Sergt. Carroll, for the police, stated that the prosecution was taken as a result of an accident between Ngongotaha and Mamaku on March 25, when a car driven by defendant collided with another vehicle proceeding in the opposite direction. . Dunton was driving on his wrong side, and cut the corner, with the result that he collided with the other car. Mr. E. Roe, who entered a plea of guilty on behalf of defendant, said that the facts were as set out. Dunton had been driving a car for a number of years and had never been in trouble before. He had merely grazed the other car, which had been travelling at a fast speed. Dunton was fined £2, with 16s court casts. On Licensed Premises. James Hearfield, George Scott and James Walker did not appear to answer charges of being found on licensed premises at a time when such premises were by law required to be closed. Senior-Sergt. Carroll said that the three defendants had been found on licensed premies on Good Friday. They were neither guests nor borders and when questioned, had endeavoured to mislead the police by giving false information regarding the numbers of rooms which they claimed they were occupying. Actually, the three defendants were strangers to Rotorua and were residents of the Te Aroha distriet. Fines of £1 were inflieted in each case. with 12s costs.

Cutting Corner. Cutting a corner at the intersection of Arawa Street and Tutanekai Street cost James Arthur Prentice, of Te Awamutu, £2 fine, with 10s costs. The Senior-Sergt. stated that defendant had cut the corner within two feet of the ksrb and had knocked down a small boy who was riding a bicycle on the corner. Defendant had stated that the accident had occurred through his efforts to avoid the boy, who was not looking where he was going. Radio Prosecutions. Under prosecutions brought by tbe Radio Inspector for the Rotorua distriet, Mr. H. C. Smith, J. Ransfield and Thomas Henderson were each convicted and fined 11s for operating unlicensed radio sets. Overladen Lorry. Charges of carrying goods in p" cess of '" the weight permitted undir his heavy traffic license and with operating on an insuffieient license, were admitted by William Reihana. The county traffic inspector, Mr. D. M. Ford, said that on March 21, he had stopped defendant, who was driving a lorry through to Napier. When put over the weighbridge, the lorry and the load of posts it was carrying weighed 5ton 6cwt exclusive of the weight of the driver and two passengers, who were being c." ried. Defendant's license entitled him to carry only 5ton. The difference between the cost of the licen • and that of the license actually held was £4 13s. Defendant was fined £4 10s, with 15s costs on the first charge, and £2 with 15s costs on the second charge.
