CHARGE OF INCITING
WELLINGTON UNEMPLOYED LEADER SENT TO PRISON WELLINGTON, Friday. Charged with inciting lawlessness at a meeting in 'Allen Street on the evening of April 22, Jdseph Turner; leader of the unemployed * workers' movement in Wellington, was Senteflced to three months' imprisonnient by Mr. E. Page, S.M. ' It was stated that Turner, in the course of his speech, said tKe following sentences: "There is only a qtiarter inch panb of glass between a hurigry man and a full stomaeh. Neceissity is the mother of invention. An empty stomaeh has no conscience. They acted in Auckland as they did ' because they were starving." Turner pleaded not guilty.
