KING'S MEDAL CONFERRED ON CONSTABLES FOR BRAVE RESCUE EFFORTS PRESENTATION BY GOVERNOR

WELLINGTON, Friday. At Government House this afternoon, His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Lord Bledisloe, presented publicly to Constables F. A. H. Baker and W. S. Hammond, of Wellington', the King's police medal, which the King has graciously conferred off t these members of the New Zealand police force in recognition of conspicuous hravery .shown hy them in" erideavouring to rescue members of the crew of the steamer Progress, whicli was wrecked at Ohiro Bay, Wellington, on May 1 last year. The presentation took place in the presence of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. W. G. Wohlmann and about 50 members of all ranks of «the Police Force, whom His Excellency briefly addfessed.
