— By Telegraph — Ctfpvright).

CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Thanks to the good offices of the Christchurch clergy the way has been opened for settlement of the tramway strike. After a long conference with the tramway employees in the morning, representatives of the Christian churches waited on the Tramway Board in the afternoon with a proposal that the parties should again confer. A conference will be held at noon to-morrow, when nine representatives of the union will meet the board. Bishop West-Watson and the deputymayor, the Rev. J. K. Archer, have been invited to attend, and a.n endeavour will be made to settle the dispute by conciliation.
