MUTUAL IMPORTANCE TO COUNTRIES OF PACIFIC CONVENTION AT HONOLULU
, — By Telegraph— Copyrlght).
HONOLULU, Thursday. The commercial relations between the United States, Australia and New Zealand were outlined at Friday's morning session of the Trade Convention which is meeting here. Mr. K. E. B. Linger, of Sydney, expressed the opinion that Australia was in a better position than any country suffering from the depression because of its great potential wealth. He predicted rapid progress when the political situation clears. He emphasised the importance of the American export trade with Australia, citing the purchasing power of sterling, and arguing that there should be no premium on the British pound. He stated that a large element in Australia was opposed to a high tariff. The diificulty, under present conditions, was to induce the Government to lower the schedule.
