NEW CLUB AT HIKUWAI AFFILIATED TO UNION. - The weekly meeting of the Rotorua • Rugby management eommmitee was ■ held on Monday night in the Rugby Union rooms in Tutanekai Street. Mr. T. S.' Robertson toolc the chair and there was a good attendanee of members and delegates. A report was received from the Ngongotaha delegate that tKoir opponents for last Saturday, the Pirates team, did not turn up for the match. It was, therefore, decided that the Pirates Club be considered out of the competition. > A letter was received from Hikuwai, at the far end of Rotoiti, statihg that a club had been formed there, and requesting affiliation with ' the union. Three delegates from Hikuwai also waited on the meeting. •The first delegate, Mr. Curtis, said that Hikuwai desired to enter a senior team for the compititions. Ife wa:; •sorry that the application was late, ° Tut at first they had had finaneial difficulties. Thsse were now settled. Mi\ M. Tuku, another delegate, said that the team was now formed and their finances were assured. They were also willing to travel and' would play all the matches required by the union at Rotorua. No finaneial assistance was asked for travelling expenses. There were thirty players registered in the club and they assured the- union that they would see the season out and not withdraw half- - way through. Club Admitted. When the matter of affiliating the new club came up for discussion, Mr. " L. Clarke said that although it was a little late to accept new clubs, ne did not like turning away 30 players, and he was supported in this view by Mr. McPherson. On the motion of Mr. Robertson, it was unanimously decided that the Hikuwai Club be admitted to tho union. Mr. L. Clarke then moved that if the new team is in a position to wiri the competition at the end of thc second round, it be permitted to play off the match against Kahukura whieh should have been contested last Saturday. The motion was carried. The referees having reported that they experienced some difficulty in re cognising players, Mr. W. G. Har wood moved that all senior players be numbered and that the teams list: contain the name and number of ev_ry man who takes the field. Number; from one to 18 are to be obtained b\ each team and one Saturday's gracc in which to have the numbers attached to the jerseys was allowed. Mr. L. Clark said that he was pleased to see that some of the linr umpires had flags on Saturday, but in one case an unmpire handed his job over to another person at h- Iftime.
