DWELLING AND CONTENTS DESTROYED

WHAKATANE, Saturday. A fire which broke out about 10.30 this evening completely destroyed the residence of Mr. T. Stamp, in Victoria Avenue, Whakatane. The alarm was not immediately received by the fire brigade and on its arrival it was evident that little could be done to save the buildng or its contents and efforts Were concentrated on saving adjoining dwellings. A good water supply greatly assisted the brigade, which succeeded in confiiiing the damage to Mr. Stamp's house, which was completely gutted. At the time of the fire Mr. Stamp was not at home. The cause of thg fire has not yet been ascertained.
