WITHDRAWAL OF STATE FUNDS FROM BANKS AND MAKING CASH PAYMENTS AUDIT ACT CONTEAVENED

Rec, April 28, 9.40 p.m. SYDNEY, Thursday. The Auditor-General of New South Wales has submitted a special report on the action of the Lang Government in withdrawing Treasury moneys from the banks in order to circumvent the Commonwealth, and in making payments by cash instead of hy cheque. This, SayS the Auditor, is in contra'vention of the Audit Act. The Premier, Mr. J. T. Lang, in a statemCnt in the Legislative Assem- : bly, defended his own action in payin'g moneys into the Treasury, and declared' that the Commonwealth's att'tude had rendered the Audit Act inopcratiVe.
