COMMONWEALTH DEMANDS DELIVERV30F INCOME TAX DOCUMENTS POWER TO USE FORCE

CANBERRA, Wednesday. Events in the fight which is being waged by the Commonwealth Government against New South Wales for recovery of the payment on behalf of that State of overseas interest, advanced a further stage following a meeting of the Federal Cabinet. Instructions have been issued to the State taxation officer of New South Wales, Mr. McMahon, to hand over to the Commonwealth Treasurer all documents relating to State and Federal income taxation. A special Gazette was issued amending the regulatioris under the Financial Agreement Enfoi'cement Act to provide that all documents relating to taxation be handed over to the Commonwealth Treasurer on demand. The Commonwealth has the power under the regulations to foreibly enter the New South Wales State offices and seize whatever documents it may require.
