ANNIVERSARY MARKED BY OPENING OF MEMORIAL THEATRE PRINCE PERFORMS CEREMONY
RUGBY, Monday. St. George's Day, the birthda'y of England' s Patron Saint and anniyejr- ' sary of Shakespeare's birth, are being celebrated to-day throughout . ,the country. Shakespeare's birthplace Stratford-on-Avon, is the centre of the chief celebration, and the. pieturesque town was gaily decorated. for the reception of the repfesentatives of over 70 nations who have come to do homage to Shakespeare's memory. The Prince of Wales . flew from Windsor to take part in the ceremony, which included the opening by His Royal Highness of the new Shaker ; speare Memorial Theatre upon the ; banks of tlig Avon. , A luneheon presided over by the Mayor of Stratford-on-Avon and atr tended by ,representatives of all the leading nations of the world, preceded the cefemony at the theatre. . To-night the first performance at ; the theatre will be- given, when the first part of Henry IV is being staged in the presence of the Prmce. m
