NGONGOTAHA HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING.
REPORT ON YEAR'S WORK. On Monday evening last Ngongotaha householders met to elect the new school committee, and to diScuss matters of moment in school affairs". A Iengthy report on the year's work of the school was read by the headteacher (Mr. A. H. Poggin). This waS considered highly satisfactory and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Foggin for his work. The school committee's report and halanee sheet were read, discussed, and adopted, everything being in oi> der and funds showing a small credit balance on the year's worlcing. Members of the outgoing eommittee were thanked for their untiring efforts during their term of offiee and recommendations were made to the incoming eommittee in regard to the continuation of the grounds improvement scheme now being carried out, and in the matter of the conveyance of school children from Hamurana and Te Awahou districts. Election of Committee. The following genjdemen were appointed to the committee for the ensuing year: Chairman, Mr. A. L. Keith; hoh. secretary, Mr. P. K. Cronin; treasurer, Mr. J. J. Smyth; committeemen, Messrs. W. G. Stembridge. J. R. Turner, W. Macpherson and J Barrowman. Mf. H. M. Martin brought up the Economy Commission's recommendations regarding school organisation and finance. Discussion took place upon the proposed closing of small schools, the raising of the school age to six years, centralisation and the abolition of education boards, manual training, conveyance of school children, decrease of capitation payable to committees and other phases. It was unanimously resolved that a strongly worded pol-test be f orwarded to the Minister of Education and Mr. C. H. Clinkard, member for the district. Iniproving PlaygrOUnds. At present several local reh'ef workers under the direction of Mr. Iveitli and Mr. Robertson (county engineer) are levelling a large area of the playground to provide better playing areas for the different games. When this Work is completed it will add greatly to the enjoyment of sport by the children. The Auckland School Committees' Assoeiation forwarded a eopy of their petition for signature by the householders, urging Parliament to bring about a 33 1-3 per cent. reduction in the cost of primary school books. Several spealcers strongly spported the object and all residents present signed the petition.
