ALLEGATIONS OF ARSON DISBELIEVED BY MAGISTRATE EXTRAORDINARY CASE

CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A kemarkable case, ii wfiich a father made a statement to the police declaring that his son had committed arson, and he himself was an accomplice in the alleged crime, was heard by the Magistrate (Mr. Mosley) to-day. . It was contended that the father's allegations were made when under the influence of drink, and out of spite. The Magistrate said he would not aecept the father's story, and discharged both accused, whose names are Miehael Joseph O'Connor, sen., and Miehael Joseph O'Connor, jun. A dwelling was destroyed, which was insured for £200, which sum the company paid to the son.
