ACT OF REVENGE

SECRET ARY OF GUATEMALAN LEGATJON HHOOTS SISTEJt'S HUSBANDThe drama of a brother's desperate act of revenge was told in the market town of Wels, Austria, on February 16, when Manuel Godoy, secretary of the Guatemalan Legation in London, explained why he killed his brother-in-law, Herr Reinhardt, a German business man, at the little village of St. Georgen last October. Godoy was acquitted, and was immediately released. "My unfortunate sister Julia had bad luck with men," the dapper little diplomat began. Her first husband robbed her of her dowry, and she divorced him. Her second husband, Reinhardt, was a parasite, who had lived from insurance swindles. As I had promised my mother on her deat bed to look after my sister, I tried in vain to persuade her not to marry Reinhardt. "When I got a telegram: 'Very unhappy. Don't know what is happening to me. Your loving sister,' I im- ! mediately left London for St. Georgen, where Reinhardt had taken my sister. 'God has sent you to me. My husband is trying to kill me' were fier first words when I arrived. Brother's Act of Despair. "Reinhardt refused to send for a doctor or take my sister to a sanatorium. He would not allow her to eat, and f orced her instead to swallow, doses of ether. When I brought her a glass of milk she seized it like a hungry animal that had not been fed for days. "I argued and argued with Reinhardt, but he threatened to push me out of the room. I was not to be bullied, however, and spent the night by my ailing sister's bedside. "So distressed was I the next morning that I rushed out into the street shouting : 'A doctor! A doctor- Reinhardt smiled, and then I knew my sister was doomed. She became worse and worse. I accused Reinhardt to his face of trying to murder her to recover money on insurance.
