"ABOMINABLE"
FRENCH BISHOP INVEIGHS AGAINST MODERN DANCING. . PARjlS, Saturday. Denouncing dancing as immodest, and dance halls as places of abominable disorder, the Bishop of Quimper has banned all dance halls in his diocese. Dancers crowd in regardless of propriety, and put out the light, affording opportunities for sin, declares the Bishop. Tangoes and American negroid dances are abominable and intolerable, he says. He permits only the oldfashioned dances, notably the Breton, which is described as charming and chastfe, but only on condition that they are danced in the open air in the daylight. The ban applies to private dances. A young man applying to a priest to marry him was asked to sign an undertaking that a wedding ball would not be held. The Bishop welcomes the economic crisis and unemployment, because, he says, it will force people to consecrate themselves to less pleasure.
