! MUSIC, ART AND LITERATURE OF NINETEENTH CENTURY. WINTER .SEASON'S STUDY. A meeting to form a study group of the Workers' Educational Associat:on for the coming winter was held in the Citizens' Cluh on Wednesday : evening. Mr. A. H. Foggin, president j of last year's group, presided over a I fair attendance. Mr. Foggin explained that the meeting had been called to select a subject for study during the coming winter season. Copies of the 1932 syllabus were d:stributed, and Mr. Foggin suggested the course in IXth century music, art and literature as the most suitable of the courses available. It would not, however, be avail- ' able until the end of May next and in consequence would not be eompleted until the end of Novgmber. After discussion, Mr. Foggin's suggestion was unanimously adopted. Reporting on last year's activities, Mr. Foggin said that the group had eomprised 64 members, the first meeting being held on April 10 and the last on Octiber 19. There had been a credit balance in the accounts at the end of the year of £5, which had been forwarded to the Auckland centrs in accordance with the rules. of -the association. Concluding h's remarks, Mr. Foggin paid a tribute to Miss Ethel Sharpe for her exceptionally good work as secretary of the group. The election of officers resulted: President (pro tem.), Mr. W. Hudson Shaw; secretary, Miss E. Sharpe; eommittee, Miss J. Pearce, Miss Winslade, and Messrs. A. H. Foggin and Evans and two to be added. It was decided to hold the weekly meeting on Fridays at 7.30 p.m. On the motion of Miss French, it was decided that non-members attending meetings be charged a fee of sixpence. A suggestion was adopted to procure plays from Auckland to read until the selected course becomes vailable at the end of May. The meeting closed with a vote cf thanks to the ret'ring officers and the chairman.
