Rec. April 14, 5.5 p.m. NEW YORK, Wednesday. The Columbia University announeed that its chemical research department, under the direction of Professor Ralph McAee, has perfected the production of artificial wool from jute. Professor McAee indicated that the substitute could be manufactured at one shilling a pound compared with the eurrerit price of ls 5d a pound for wool, and stated that the substance could hardly be distinguished from natural wool. It is interesting to note that the University's announcement also included news pf the development and manufacture of artificial diampnds of 20 carat size by a graduate student under (;he laboratory direction of Professor McAee.
