VEHICLE OUT OF CONTROL ] GISBORNE, Monday. | After three days inquiry ,the inquest concluded to-day intro the cifcumstandes surroundirig 'the death bf 3d ward Hazell, who was fat'ally' injure(| by a motor van whicfi collided with him wfiile standing outside his fefiop oii March 18. The tbrdner, M1'- P. H. Harper, delivefing his verdict, said fie had been clearly assured tbat deceased was run down by a vari driven by a youth named James Rennie Elliott, and sus- 1 tain'ed injuries fro'm which he died ; later 'in hospital.' It also seemed clear that tfi'e van wa:s out of control before the co'llision and' that' the brakes' were not onjy' defective, but were practically uieless. Whetfier the brakeri' were '; defective before the accident or nbt, , the coroner was riot prepared to say.
