WELLINGTON, Friday. The conference of education hoards called for the purp'oseJ>f di^cussirig the recommepdatioris pf ihe National Expenditure Commissibn was, operied by the Minister of EdpCaiion, ihe Btori. R. Masters. Mr. A. Burns, chaifmari of the Auckland Education Board, presidedMr. Masters saidi that he was keenly appreciative of . ihe manner in which ihe hoards had mai him iri regard to the economies which he had been forced to affect. He wanted to. say that it was not the intention of the Government to accept all the recommendations of the Commission so far as administration was concerned. The Commissiori had recommended tbe abolition of education and oiher boards. This question had been left over on account of a promise to the boards that they- would be oifered ari bpportuniiy of thoroughly discussing the question and placing their re-

commendations hefpre him and Cabinet. He wanted them to take a broad view of the matter. There existed a certain amount of public opinion that the boards should he abolished, Mr Masters continued. Perhaps they would consider the matter from the point of view of coriibining in certain areas and wprking more eeonomically and. mQre effectively.
