Rec. April 6, 6.10 p.m. ST. JOHN'S, Tuesday. The Premier, Sir R. Squires, was rescued with difficulty to-night from a Leaguer's house where he was "besfeiged for several hours, during and after the fesignation of the Government, and was taken to a p'rivate residence nearby by a voluriteer rfescue party, led by the Rev. W. D. Godffey, the Rev. C. Johrison and the Rev. Father Cippy. The crowd recoghised them and threatened to throw Sir R. Squires into the harbour. The influence of the clergymen was used tb bring' abotit their dispersal. Shortly after eight o'clock, hoWevfer, the crowd were Still corigregated in the Government grounds with Leaguers and police still inside the building. Two eonstables and two injufed civilians were takfen tb hospital.
