Unemployed Demonstration.

A misunderstanding led to a demonstration by a crowd of some hundreds of unemployed outside the furniture warehouse and factory of Archbold Bros., Ltd., in Manchester Street, Christchurch. Spokesmen of the demonstrators stated that they were there as a protest against the firm's treatment of one of its tenants, an unemployed man who had been asked to leave a house in Madras Street. Mr.. E. Archbold's explanation, that the man had adopted an unfriendly attitude when asked to pay his rent, quickly placated the men, and after Mr. Archbold had promised to give the man a month's grace the crowd gave him three' lusty cheers and dispersed.
