ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ADOPTS NEW RULES.
LADY MEMBERS JOIN. "This is really the first general meeting of the newly formed club," said Mr. G. H. Weir, chairman, at the opening of the annual general meeting of the Rotorua Miniature Rifle Club on Monday evening. The chairman said that he was gratified at the excellent attendance, especially at the presence of the ladies, whom he understood, intended joining the club. The report and balance sheet were adopted without comment. Mr. Weir remarked on the successful season last year and the pleasing fact' that the club had succeeded in ending the year with a credit balance. The executive and members had pulled together well and had carried on from the inception of the club on the best of terms. A comprehensive set of rules was presented to the meeting, drawfi up by a special committee appointed last "year. These were adopted. It was decided that in order to give the club a standing in shooting activities, it be affiliated with the New Zealand Miniature Rifle Association. The question whether members should obtain their ammunition from the club or be allowed to obtain it outside was briefly discussed, and it was decided that as the club rates were cheaper than elsewhere and the club would get most of the business, no stipulation should be made.
It was decided that ladies be accepted for membership, but that if many were joining a special ladies night would be held. The arrangements in connection with this were left to the incoming management committee. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson; president, Mr. W. T. Pakes; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Whitley, H. Hardcastle, A. V. Merriman, H. P. Ford and Winslade; secretary and treasurer, Sergt.-Major W. Bates; auditor, Mr. J. H. Watson; management committee, Miss W. E. Ellison, M. G. H. Weir, Mr. S. J. 'Walker, Mr. R. H Reid and Mr Alexander The appointment of an assistant secretary was left in the hands of the management committee St was decided that a social committee be formed, but the appointments were left to be decided when a full attendance of members could be present. Th:s would be done at one of the club shooting evenings. The opening night was set down for Monday, April 11, and a practice shoot for the men is to be held- this evening. All practices and competition shoots are to commence at 7 p.m., and the regular meeting night will be Mondays. It was dec'ded that the following recommendations be made to the incoming committee. — (1) That the membership fee remain at 2s 6d; (2) that the first two sighters vbe called back and then five practice shots be fired at the centre bull on the targ;t, after which competitors will be permitted to view targets at the butts and then continue with their competition shots.
