The first-class posfage rate was ipcreased from two to three cents for a period of two years on Wednesday by the House of Representatives in expectation of it yielding £27,000,000 The postage increase is the largest single revenue raiser in the Ways and Means Committee's substitute proposals for the saies tax. The House accepted a steady stream of the committee's proposals. Taxes on telegraphs, telephone and radio messages are estimated to produce £7,000,000 and a ten per cent. amusement tax is expected to yield £8,000,000.
