There were 8,000 present at the Albert' Hall for the hght. :'iil Sporting writers eulogise Cook's pluck in meeting the gigantic Italiari, who scales 17 'stone 6:lbs:-t'o his opponents 13 stone 5 lbs. The referee Was C. H. Douglas, :who iS a brbther of the cricketer. Carnera wore eight oz. gloves. ; 1 4 -* 1 The Australian pluckily attacked the Italian from the start but was down for three with a short left to the neck. The crowd heartily applauded Cook's vigorous retaliation.The second round was even, neither landing clean- blows. A right to the body -downed Cook in the third round for slx, the bell saving him again. In the same roundj which was easily the Italian's, only quick footwork saved the Australian from heavier punishlnent. He did not attempt t'o rise.: The crowd accepted the inevitable verdict quietly, though there was some shouts from the gallery, " It is a public disgrace." Carnera was full of praise for Cook. He said to his manager, "Get - me Cook as a sparring partner fof my next fight. He stands up."
