WOMEN POLICE.

(Special to the

On Monday evening the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women, at which Mrs. Kenrick is the Rotorua Women's Club representative, held its monthly. meeting. The Auckland president, Miss Ellen Melville, presided. One of the matters under discussion was the long-debated question of women police. It was pointed out that at the recent meeting of the Justice's of the Peace Federation held at Wanganui, a motion advocating women police was lost by 12 votes to nine. A resolution was passed recomm'ending that the matter be brought before the Dominion executive, which is scheduled to meet this Easter, wheh it is hoped that a definite course of action will be decided upon. Miss B. Carnaehan brought forward a resolution from the Auckland branch of the Women Teachers' Association:— "That the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women protest against further differentiation of salaries of teachers, believing that sex should not be allowed to be regarded as a disability." Miss Carnaehan said that although the teachers realised the hardship of the times, they very strongly resented the differentiation in treatment between men and women teachers. It was decided to forward the resolution, which was passed unanimously, to the next meeting of the Dominion National Council of Women.
