Rec. Mar. 20, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Saturday. Cambridge won the 'varsity boat race by five lengths, in 19 minutes 11 seconds. The opposite erew was exhausted. Fnishing 18 seconds ahead, Cambridge has now equalled Oxford's record of nine successive wins. The sunshine brought thousands to the Thames to watch the classic race. i Oxford's only chance of winning : the contest vanished when they lost the toss. Cambridge selected the Surrey station, obtaining an initial advantage. Rowing with wonderful rhythiri, they lost the struggling Oxonians before they had passed Hammer smith, and without effort increas- ■ ed their lead at every stroke. ! Oxford spurted valiantly, but hope- ! lessly, at * Chiswirk and finished exhausted. The Cambridge, sido finished smiling and erect in their boat. .
