WHAKATANE, Tuesday. A heavy rain storm set in here early last night and continued well into the night. The storm was one of the worst experienced for soriie years and although only lasting for
comparatively a few hours, the record rainfall since 1928 of 2.65 inches was reeorded by Mr. H. Muscutt. This was the heavist fall reeorded fqr 15 days of the month of March since 1928 when 6.67 inches was reeorded. To-day was beautifully fine and farmers all over the district are smiling over the wonderf ul effeet which the rain will have on their pastures. Damage was, however, done to several business premises and although slight, caused much inc.onvenience. The Borough Council electric power was cut off for close on an hour as a result of the damage to the system and witnesses'state that in Kopeopeo electric flashes were travelling up and down the electric poles.
