Ladies' Captain It was decided at Monday nlght's meeting of the Rotorua Aniateur Swimmxng Club that a ladycaptain be elected, to hold the offieial rank of viee-captain. Mr. H. L. Musgrave, in moving a naotion to this e'ffect, said _that it was neeessai:y to have some*one to look after the ladies' affairs, as well as to talce some of the responsibility from the shoulders of the club captain. The election of the vicecaptain was deferred until the next general meeting, when, it was hoped, more ladies would be present. Swimming Instruction It is the intention of the Rotorua Amateur Swimming Club, which was formed at a meeting on Monday evc ning, to appoint a swimming instructoi so that non-swimmers joining the club may be taught and poof swimmers may be coached. On'this sng'gestion being put forward, Mr. W. L. Richards, president of the club, spoke of the necessity for competent instruction, as many drowning tragedies occurred in the Dominion eaeh year through people not being able to swim. He also considered that a good instructor would he* a means of attracting member s to -the club. Easter Train Services

A comprehensive train timetable has 'been arranged by the Railways Department for the coming Easter holidays and special services, will be available to travellers from March 22 to March 29. On March 24 a special train will leave Auckland for Rotorua at 2.35 p.m., arriving here at 9.20 p.m., and on the same day a special wilS leave Rotorua for Auckland, at 2.45 p.m., arriving- at 9.19 p.m. There are also alterations to the services on the main trunk line during this period. Dairy Produce Cartage The New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, is inviting tenders for the cartage of dairy produce in various districts in the company's territory. Mr. I Free opened his subject with a hrief J survey of the history of car manuJ facture leading up to the present proj b'em of the markeiing of used cars brought ahout by the world depression. In times like the present, Mr. Free stated, people should live up to the Rotary principle and look on the bright side of thiiigs instead of the glcomy side. Swimming Cup Offered A letter received by Mr. A. Walden from Mr. T. H. Grenfell. advertising manager of Macky Logan, Caldwe.ll, Limited, offering the newly formed Rotorua Swimming Clnb a cup for competition purposes, was read at the formation meeting of the club on Monday evening. The conditions attached to the trophy are that it be given in the name of the Manawatu Hosiery Factory and be ealled the Maclone Speedo Championship

Cup. It is to he awarded each year to the champion of the club in events over 50, 100 and 220 yards. In the event of a tie for points a swim off is to be held over 150 yards. The firm will supply a miniature to the winner for the first three years after which the club is to provide the miniature. The club decided to accept the trophy and instructed the secretary to thank the firm for its offer. New Whakatane Church School Over 200 people attended the opening by Bishop Liston on Sunday afternoon of St. John's Roman Catholic Church School at Whakatane, writes our Whakatane correspondent. The building, which cost £1200 to erect, will be used as both a church and a school and it is estimated that it will accommodate over 100 pupils. Bishop Liston was accompanied by Fath.er O'Callaghan, the superior of the Maori Missions, Father Van Beek, of Matata and Father Lagan. The school will he conducted by the Sisters of St. Joseph, who are at present situated at Matata. Speeches ] were made by Mr. W. Sullivan, Mayor of Whakatane, the clergymen present and Mr. G. Adler. A eollection taken up resulted in the fine response of £103. *
