PROGRESS IN ROTORUA CLUB'S SERIES OF MATCHES

CHAMPIONSHIPS & HANDICAPS The Rotorua Lawn Tennis Club's matches are making steady progress and it is hoped that the championshin and handicap ssries which have b^on in progress now for some time ^"i1! be concluded before Easter. Some of the sections are well forward but other s have a long way to go before the finals can be decided. In the men's championship singies, N. Smith and W. Smith have reacbed the semi-finals, but it is not known y^t what day the final will be decided. Some of the first round games have not yet been playea in the ladies' championship singies, this sect'on being well behind. Only three players, the Misses Wright, B. Manson •. nd Simmers have reached the second round, in addition to three others who had a bye in the first round. In the men's handicap doubles only the semi-finals and finals remain to he played. In th:s section Cunninghnm and Marshall meet Morrison and North and McDowell and McLean meet Tregear and Holland, in contests for the semi-final honours. In fhe ladies' side of this section, in the top half of the draw, Mrs. McLean and Miss R. Manson, are semi-final-i 'ts, but in the bottom half a number of matches have yet to be decided. Miss Dawson and Miss Steele have not yet played against Miss Dannefaerd and Miss Louden in the first round and until this game is decided no further progress can be made in the section. Robertson is to play N. Smith in the finals of the men's handicap singlef. event and in the ladies' secb'on'Mrs McLean plays Miss L. Dnunefaord in the semi-finals while Miss Manson plays the winner of the matc.h between Miss Cooney and Miss Steele in the same stage. The mixed handicap doubles have scarcely been commenced, only one pair, Miss Smith and Robertson having reached the third round. Tlr'ee more games have yet to be decided before the semi-finais are reached.
