DOMINION'S POLICY GOVERNMENT TO MAKE FULL SURVEY OF SECONDARY INDUSTRY CABINET COMMITTEE AT WORK
WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Government proposes shortly to consider fully the policy New Zealand will adopt at the forthcoming Imperial Economic Conference at Ottawa. To assist in the formulation of its plans, the latest available particulars as to the exact nature of articles which are manufactured in New Zealand and the extent of the production of them is to be obtained. Commenting on the decision of the Government, the Minister of Customs, the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, said to-day that a Cabinet Committee appointed to consider the policy to be adopted by the New Zealand Government at the coming conference at Ottawa had eome to the conclusion that it was necessary to obtain further information -with respect to the Dominionjs secondary indqstries in order that it might be in a better position to deal with the subject from the point of view of inter-Imperial trade. When the information came to hand it would enable the committee to make a general survey of local manufacturing industries and would be of great value during the discussions that would take place at the conference. It was prohable that at an early date requests wouTd he made to other industries and commercial organisations to supply the Government with necessary information.
