Rec. Mar. 9, 11 p.m. CANBERRA, Wednesday. Arising out of a, recent conferenee between railway transport authorities* whose aim is to furnish recommend^tions of the co-ordination of the railway transport systems of the Commonwealth with a view to sweeping economies and the elimination of duplication, Mr Heath, who conducted the jnvestigation on behalf of the Cominonweaith has submitted a report in )vhich, inter alia, he says that all railway systems should be made independent of political interference. Mr'. Heath also nrges drastic reductions in the number of authorities controlling industrial conditions. He emphasised that the railways pre over capitalised, while their financial statements do not diselose the U'ue facts in respect to their operations. The report admitted that motor transport has had an adverse -affect on the railways generally, and particular reference is made to the unsatisfactory state of the New South Wales railways due to political meddling.
