labour no confidence motion defeated by 22 votes SUPPORT OF INDEPENDENTS

WELLINGTON, last night. After 48 speakers had contributed to the long debate on the Address-in-Reply, discussion ended at 10.30 tonight. The Labour Party's no confidence motion was defeated by 48 votes to 26 votes, Messrs H. Atmore (Nelson), G. C. Black (Motueka) and C. A. Wilkinson (Egmont) voting with the Opposition. Replying to questions hy the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. II. E. Holland, on the business of the House, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, stated that the debate on the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill would be taken to-morrow. It was proposed to take the discussion on the Economists Committee report after the debate had finished. He hoped to lay the Economy CommisSion's report on the table in a day of so. The House rose at 10.46 p.m.
