RUGBY, Tuesday. Sterling made a remarkable rise against other leading cdffericies on the market to-day. From the ovefnight level of 8.531 the New York rate shot up to 3 dollars 715 cents. The recovery automatically caused a reduction in the price of gold, which was officially fixed to-day at £5 15s 8d per ounce and there were dealings later at £5 12s 7d.
