CONFUSION CAUSED
SIMILARITY BETWEEN OLD AND PRESENT NUMBER PLATES. According to the borough traffic inspector, Mr, Dl M. Ford, the similarity between the current year's motor registration plates and those issued six years ago was utilised by a defendant in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, in order to run an unregistered motor vehicle. The defendant was Martin Galvin, who did not appear or enter any plea in regard to the charge. The inspector, explaining matters to the court, said that the only difference between the plates for the current year and those for 1926 was that a star was placed between the numbers on the old plates, and a triangle on the present ones. Defedant had been using the old plates on a motor cycle for some time, and when finally caught had been unable to produce the necessary driving license. ■ Galvin was fined £2 and costs on the charge of using an unregistered motor vehicle, and 10s and costs on the charge of being without a license.
