The final challenge match for + he Nation Cup was coneluded during the week-end, when Whakatane met the bolders, Matata, who successfully defended their title. Whakatane batted first and sco "?d 46 (M. Lyon 12 and York 10). The collapse was caused through the g -od fielding of Matata, s;x being caught out and one stumped. Bowling: D. Lees scored the good avemge of :-ix wiekets for 13 runs and Sutherland three for 26. Matata reulied with 88 (D. I. 30, Tunnecliffe 14). Bowling: TJ Lyon took five wiekets for 16 runs. York three for 39, and Darvill om for 9. Whakatane raffied in the secnd innings and scored 157 for nme wiekets, deelared (York 49. Peeh'er 36, Timbs 26). Bowling: D. L --er took four wiekets for 46 runs, Su';herland three for 82. Matata in them soeond innirgmade 94 for the loss of seven w'clc ts when time was ealled and stur-or . drawn. Matata retained the Cup by 42 runs on the first innings.
