HINDENBERG'S ASSET

(Press Assn.-

personal .devotion of. jmany veterans of great war RESULT HARD TO PREDIGT

— By Telegraph — Copyright.)

BERLIN, Monday. Fifteen thousand members of the Republican "Iron FroiitZ organisatiori, demOnstrating outside the former Imperial Palace, pledged themselves to support Marshal Hindenburg for the presidency. Political prophets refrain from matheniatical forecasts, believing that tlie personality of the candidatb is a more important factor thari party, hut Herr Duesterburg and the Communist (Herr Thaelmann) may poll enough votes to preverit either Marshal Hindenburg or Herr Hitler Securing an absolute majority in the first ballot. Marshal Hindenburg has a great asset in the personal devotion of millions of war veterans. who are supporting him irrespective of politics. The Cologne "Gazette" forecasts that President Hindenburg will get 15,000,000 votes; Herr Hitler 12/200,000; Herr Thaelmann 4,800,000 and Colonel Deusterberg 1,900,000. Thus a second ballot will be necessary, as it is expected that 35,000,000 votes will he cast. . In these circumstances President Hindenburg wonuld require 17,500,000 votes in the second ballot. A straight fight with Hitler and Thaelmann would certainly give the Marshal a substantial majority. — ». '
